This piece was woven by me here at my home-studio in New Mexico on a warp of Organic Cotton-Linen and a weft of naturally dyed raw silk. The dyes used for this piece were black walnuts, cochineal, pecan shucks, marigolds, fustic, blanket flower, black walnut leaves, sandalwood, madder, sage and osage orange.
I have been pondering the concept for this piece for some time. I often feel the need to create things just to see what they will look like and to see what is possible. Through the process of weaving I work though abstract concepts to create a physical manifestation of a feeling, for which I lack the words.
In this piece what came into life is a field of naturally dyed lines creating visual music, dissipating into soft clouds and muted tones. I cleared my mind in order to pull back the curtain of noise which is our daily life in order to see and experience the natural beauty underneath. What form does reverence take? The ever gentle shapeshifting of clouds, eyes shut and the songs of birds fill me, peering through a microscope into the larger world of tiny things.
