Desert Awaken Handwoven Art Yardage

Spring winds of the desert stir this arid land awake from its winter slumber. Relentless wind, warming days and crisp nights mark this season, along with tiny buds and the gentle buzz of creatures awakening. The stones tell stories silently of their eons beneath this vast sky. Compressed bones of previous beings have become the rock, and the rock has become them. I am but feet upon this landscape, endlessly learning, wondering, worshiping.

This piece was woven by me here at my home-studio in New Mexico on a warp of Organic Cotton-Linen and a weft of naturally dyed raw silk.  The dyes used include sandalwood, black walnuts, pecan shucks, marigold flowers, blanket flower, sage, pomegranate skins & fustic.  

Technicalities - It is 2.7m in length with hand twined fringe on each end.  There are three antique African Cowrie shells twined into the fringe.
