This piece was woven on a warp of organic cotton-linen with a weft of naturally dyed raw silk and measures 3.95 m. The middle 1.4 meters is pattern woven, the whole length of which is adorned with structures of contrasting naturally dyed colors.

I used 98 different shades of naturally dyed raw silk to create the myriad visual depths of the raw silk weft. (Which is probably only 30-40% of the naturally dyed hues that I have in my bins/palette) It has taken me years to build up this palette of so many hues and values of color. Years of observing and giving thanks for the leaves, fruits, bark, branches, lichens, mushrooms and one bug (cochineal) that have flowed through my dyepot to bring these colors to life. All of the life-energy that existed in these plants and fungi are infused into the colors of these fibers. This is the beauty of the earth dyes...they are a living thing. They come from our only home, this Earth.
