This piece was first formed over one hundred years ago, high in the mountains near our home. The mine long since closed, roads and trails abandoned, wooden structures that once supported these operations disintegrated, scavenged, burned. But nails remain.
These beautiful bits of rust were woven into wool that was then dyed with Inky Cap mushrooms, Hydnellum Peckii and black walnuts.
The weaving is mounted onto a piece of walnut wood with copper tacks, the wood has a keyhole carved into it for easy hanging. This piece measures 7 inches wide (at the widest of the wooden frame) x 49 inches long.
