Quartz and Silk Sculptural Dress
Dance in the radiant sunlight, floating in warm rays near a hidden spring
Drawn by mysteries of which we will never find the end
Wrapped in love and light
The creation of this wearable sculpture was many years in the making. Its centerpiece was born as one of the elements I created for a fiber show years ago. (It is shown in the photos in its original form displayed in a handmade Walnut wood frame) For years I stewed on how to 'complete' this piece, never feeling it would be finished until it had another component. Finally it felt right, all coming together in layers of raw silk and silk gauze, some in their natural white and some lightly dyed with back walnuts.
The centerpiece was created of raw silk, formed with freeform knot work. Into this structure are embedded spectacular Tibetan double-terminated smokey quartz points. At the ends of the fringe and on the ties at the neck are rutilated quartz beads.
This piece will fit a variety of sizes as it is a very simple and flowing halter design with ties at the neck. It will fit up to a 39 inch (100 cm) under arm (around the chest and above the breast) measurement. The gossamer layers of this piece will rest differently on every-body. The model (me) in the photos is 6' tall , for scale. The very inner layers of this piece rest at the upper thigh, though there are many flowing laters around and over it. From the top of the knot work breastplate to the shortest part of the hemline is 26 inches (66 cm), and to the longest part is approx. 55 inches (140 cm). The hemline can be shortened according to your needs.
The knotted raw silk breastplate measures approximately 8x7 inches with the longest of the beaded fringe measuring 15 inches.
